"President Musharraf is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Pakistan and is engaged in consultation but whatever the decision is taken in this regard will be in the best interests of the country,' he said.
Addressing a news conference along with Faisal Saleh Hayat, Aftab Sherpao, Naurez Shakoor and other party leaders here, Sikandar condemned the life attempt on Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz and termed it a "cowardly act".
"We strongly condemn terrorism, and support the efforts of the President to combat terrorism", he said.
The minister said that his party would actively participate in local bodies polls, and added that "our government's policies will help eliminate poverty, unemployment and lawlessness from the country".
He claimed that his party was playing an effective and active role for the cause of democracy in and outside parliament. He said that he was confident that his party would soon emerge as the single largest party on political horizon of the country.
Sherpao, who is Senior Vice-President (SVP) of the party, said that the party had announced the names of central office-bearers in the federal capital a day back and now they had come to Lahore to announce the names of Punjab office-bearers of the party. On Sunday, he said, they would go to Karachi and then Quetta and Peshawar, respectively, to announce Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP officer-bearers.
Turning to the issue of law and order, Sherpao said his party was against all forms of terrorism and also condemns every effort aiming at sabotaging law and order in the country.
He announced that his party would soon be holding a convention in Lahore in which all central, provincial and district level office-bearers would take part. Such conventions will also be organised in other provinces to convey party's message to masses.
He announced the following officer-bearers of the party for Punjab: Naurez Shakoor, President; Rasheed Bhatti Secretary General; Makhdoom Ashfaq SVP, and Asif Khan, Javed Awan, Zafar Awan, Abdur Rahman Niazi and Yasir Iqbal as VPs.
Faisal Saleh Hayat, who is Secretary General of the party, said that efforts would be made to prepare the party for the challenges it could face in coming months. In this regard a countrywide convention of the party would be held in August to be followed by a series of conventions in all provinces at provincial and district levels.
"We will fully participate in the LB polls, which will prove a base for our party in the next general elections," he declared. He said that his party was also in contact with the fellows who had contested elections under the banner of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians. His party has rendered a lot of sacrifices in the past and will never hesitate to do so in future too for the cause of a parliamentary democracy in the country, he added.
Naurez said: "We will prove that we are the 'real PPP'", and declared that "we will avoid repeating the past mistakes". He said: "No decision will be made within the party without consultation of the party workers."
